Watching it for the first time tonight. 15 min in and already hooked. Best. Movie. Ever. Also drinking one of my favorite beers, La Fin du Monde.

Looks amazing on 42" HDTV and bluray.

Cheers.

Is that from the movie?

I love the GT40 camera car they used.

Glad you're watching it on bluray. Astounding clarity on those 65mm films.

The clarity is insane. Like, it could be a new movie almost.

Haha right? I watched the "behind the scenes" bit yesterday and the on car cameras are insane! Sometimes I have no idea how the driver could see where he was going!

American store, Canadian beer. Does not compute ;)

Great, great, great movie. But, it won't quite continue at the same pace as the opening portion. There's plenty of not racing, or "talking".

Now, if you haven't seen Grand Prix before, maybe you haven't yet seen Steve McQueen in Le Mans, in which the 24hr race is the plot of the movie and the cars and teams are the actual protagonists and antagonists. It's the better movie of the two, by a narrow margin.

Yup. There are lots of production photos on the Google.

I recall $kay mention that Yves freaked out driving the real cars so they made that rig for his scenes.

Better than most new movies even. I recall reading that the 65mm format has enough information on the film that it is essentially 8k. Where as 35mm would max around 4k. You're not seeing that on bluray, but in an adequately equipped theater I imagine it to be mind blowing.

Oh, yeah. I didn't even realize what was happening in the photo there. Supposedly Montand was a really shitty driver. He was at least a good actor and singer.

Oh I've seen Le Mans , but found it lacking. Perhaps it is a pure enthusiasts film, but I enjoy some character development as well so I think I'll end up liking Grand Prix better. It even highlights the inherent dangers and worries associated with F1 in the '60's.

Us Americans do love un-American things. Or maybe it's just me.

i cant decide which is best. But youre correct. Le mans almost lacks plot.

But also, the plot of grand prix is a bit boring so.... i dont know which to pick.

In GP the thing that i loved was that they film the feet. While heel and toe.

The plot of Le Mans is the race between Ferrari and Porsche, and the race between Delaney and Stahler. Also Delaney's relationship with Lisa, since Delaney was involved in the crash that killed her husband the previous year at Le Mans. But the most important thing is Porsche vs Ferrari and the way Delaney subs in to put Porsche on the top two steps of the podium.

but for a (not gearhead ) person. That is not a plot, much of delaneys relation with lisa was eye contact, im not complaining but there is more racing than plot.

I prefer it that way. i didnt like rush so much. if i wanted sex scenes i might as well go look for porn. I wanted rush to have as much racing scenes as grand prix or le mans. But they had to appeal to non gearheads too.

I certainly am speaking from a gearhead point of view.
